Single Ended? Double Ended?

Heute möchte ich noch einmal ein paar Basics klären.

Es geht um Single Ended (SE) und Double Ended (DE) Dreads.

SEs (rechts im Bild) haben eine Schlaufe, durch die beim Einflechten die Haare der abgeteilten Partie durchgezogen werden, mit eine gröberen Häkelnadel oder einer Haarklemme/Bobby Pin.
Danach wird die die durchgezogene Strähne in zwei Teile geteilt und man hat nun mit der SE Dread zusammen drei Stränge, mit denen man flechten kann.
Am Ende wird das Geflochtene mit einem Gummi fixiert.

DEs (links im Bild) haben die doppelte Länge und haben in der Mitte eine Art "Falznaht". Die abgeteilte Strähne wird wieder durch zwei geteilt, die Falznaht kommt zwischen diese beiden Strähnen auf den Ansatz. Die eine Seite des DEs wird auf dem Kopf festgesteckt, damit sie nicht im Weg hängt. Die untere Seite wird zum Dritten Flechtstrang und man kann wieder einfach runterflechten, das Ganze wird mit einem Gummi fixiert, die zweite Hälfte des Dreads oben aus dem Feststecken gelöst und man hat zwei Dreads mit einmal Flechten


Vorteile - und Nachteile an SE Dreads:
Sie sehen etwas natürlicher aus, weil die Wurzel des Dreads aus dem Haaransatz kommen zu scheint. Aber: Man muss mehr flechten, weil man ja doppelt so viele Dreads einflechten muss, um das gleiche Volumen wie bei DEs zu bekommen. An jedem Dread sieht man auch leicht das eigene Haar.

Vorteile- und Nachteile an DE Dreads:
Einmal Flechten, zwei Dreads. Ein klarer Vorteil. Außerdem kann man die eine Seite des DE Dreads z.B. in der Eigenhaarfarbe machen und daran das Flechtwerk entlangführen, die andere Seite kann eine Akzentfarbe sein, ohne, dass man dort das geflochtene darauf erkennt. So sehen auch bunte Dreads sehr echt aus.
Ein Nachteil ist, dass man gerade vorn am Kopf den Falz erkennen kann und das Ergebnis nicht so natürlich wirkt.

Die Lösung: Wie kombiniere ich Vorteile und schließe Nachteile aus?
Wenn man nur Dreads im Unterhaar möchte und das Deckhaar offen lassen will, empfehle ich DE Dreads, da man die Ansätze eh nicht sieht und man weniger Flechtarbeit hat.
Möchte man einen ganzen Kopf voll Dreads in seiner eigenen Haarfarbe, die sehr natürlich aussehen sollen, empfehle ich SE Dreads nur, wenn man sich nicht vor viel Flechtarbeit scheut.
Meine Optimallösung für einen ganzen Kopf voll Dreads sind ca. 30 DE Dreads für den Hinter- und Oberkopf und 10 SE Dreads für die vorderste Reihe (man könnte aber auch auf 35 DE aufstocken, wenn man noch etwas mehr Volumen will!). So hat man viele Dreads mit wenig flechten hinten, aber vorn fast unsichtbare Ansätze der Dreads.

A few basic about SE and DE Dreads.

SE(single ended) Dreads, on the right in the photo, have a loop. While installing them, you pull the section of hair through the loop (for example with a chrochet needle or a bobby pin), split the section into two strands, use the dread as third strand and braid down a simple 3-strand-braid, secure everything with a little rubber band.

DE (double ended Dreads) , on the left, are double length. They are splitted into half. The middle of the long double dread is pressed onto the skalp between two strands of hair from your section. The upper dread side is pinned down to the head to keep the dread out of the way. The second half is used as third strand to braid down a simple 3-way-braid. Secure everything with a rubber band.

Pros and Cons of SE: 
SE look a little more natural, because it seems like the dread comes out of the root. But: you gotta braid a lot more for the same volume. And: you see your own hair wrapped/braided around every dread.

Pros and Cons of DE: 
One Braid, two dreads. The adventage is obvious. It's also possible to make a "Harlekin Dreads", that means one side of the DE is your own harcolour, the other side is a accent colour. The braid goes down the side which has your own haircolour and you have the other funky side without any braiding at the root.
But: Especcially at the front of the head you can see the bend of the DE dread a little, sometimes.

My solution:
DE dreads at the back and the top of your head, SE dreads at the front row. So your dread look more natural at the front/top and have a lot of volume in the back.
If you only want dreads in your bottom layers and leave the top layers dread-free, I'd suggest DE Dreads. Less braiding! And you don't see the roots anyways, since the top layers cover them :)
Optimal would be 30 DE and 10 SE Dreads for a whole head (maybe 35DE, if you want insane volume!)
